How to effectively install exterior blinds?

If you've decided to have exterior blinds on your house or apartment, you only have to decide how to install and finish them. Let's look at the 2 most common options - subframe installation with a PurBox and additional installation with a flush cover plate.

Purenit box for blinds

The subframe option is a great choice primarily due to better insulation at the transition and connecting joints of the window. Ready-made boxes are easily installed into the space of the contact insulation system and are also suitable for use in passive houses.

Model of a Purenit Box

The major advantage is the strength of the box, its resistance to moisture and construction chemicals. In one step, you create an insulated space for exterior blinds, where thermal bridges won't occur. PurBoxes do not expand and the facade can be stretched onto them right after suitable penetration. Installation is quick and saves time during construction

In our offer, you can find 2 types of boxes:

  • PBI - purenit box with PIR insulation,
  • PB - purenit box.

Purenit Box with PIR Insulation

PBI is the most efficient and commonly used version. The purenit box is supplemented with PIR insulation with a thickness of 30 - 60 mm. The box depth is 180 mm for standard slats of blinds type Cetta 80 and Zetta 90 when using 30 mm PIR insulation. For smaller slats Cetta 65 and Zetta 70, the box depth is 160 mm.

Purenit Box with Insulation

A - purenit box, thickness of purenit panels is 15 mm

B - depth of purenit box with PIR insulation//space for insulation

C - foundation mounting U profile

D - PIR insulation

E - facade

F - subframe strip (usually with a depth of 20 or 30 mm, for facade usage 3 or 13 mm)

G - mounting brackets (can be supplemented with purenit pads)

Purenit Box

PB box is made of purenit panels. It is used where transition insulation is already resolved, and we create a space for exterior blinds in the contact insulation system from a material that works with it. The box depth is 160 mm for standard slats of blinds type Cetta 80 and Zetta 90. For smaller slats Cetta 65 and Zetta 70, the box depth is 150 mm.

Purenit Box without Insulation

A - purenit box, thickness of purenit panels is 15 mm

B - depth of purenit box/space for insulation

C - foundation mounting U profile

D - mounting brackets (can be supplemented with purenit pads)

E - facade

F - subframe strip (usually with a depth of 30 mm, for facade usage 13 mm)

Exterior Blinds with Flush Box

This option is most commonly used for finished houses for additional installation on a finished facade. Exterior blinds with a flush cover box can of course also be considered during the construction phase and adapt the space around the windows accordingly, so that the blinds do not interfere with the light of the window.

In our offer, exterior blinds are only supplied with a cover plate without additional insulation. The box depth is 100 - 120 mm for blinds with slats 60, 65, and 70. For blinds with standard slats, the box depth is 130 mm for Cetta 80 and 140 mm for Zetta 90. You can find exact dimensions in the technical sheet.

Exterior Blinds with Flush Cover Plate

A - flush cover plate

B - bracket for cover plate and bracket for blinds

C - minimum required depth for blinds box
