How to measure for Japanese sliding panels correctly?

Measuring the width of Japanese sliding panels

Japanese sliding panels can be mounted inside or above the casing. For mounting inside the casing (CEILING-mount), measure the actual casing width and subtract 5 mm.

An example width measurement: The width measured from the left side to the right side of the casing is 2,105 mm. Subtract the recommended 5 mm for mounting inside the casing. Width = 2100 mm. Enter the dimension in bold into the order form.

For mounting above the casing (WALL-mount or CEILING-mount), provide the actual width you require to be shaded (usually 200 mm bigger than the casing width, if the space for mounting allows it).

An example width measurement: The width measured from the left side to the right side of the required shading is 2,105 mm. We recommend adding the overlap, usually 200 mm. Width = 2305 mm. Enter the dimension in bold into the order form.

If you want the panels to be stacked outside the shaded area, provide the profile width in a note with your order.

An example width measurement: Enter the measured required width for the shaded area into the order form and specify the required rail width in a note with the order.

In this case, we recommend you first put in a request by sending the required shading dimensions, other specifications, and the fact that you want a wider rail to: info@labona.eu. We will calculate the correct rail width for the panels to be stacked completely outside the shaded area and send you a quote.

Measuring the height of Japanese sliding panels

Measure the total height, including the headrail. We recommend subtracting 30–50 mm from the actual height.

An example height measurement: A measured height of 2,315 mm minus 30–50 mm (the recommended height reduction). For our example, we opted to subtract 40 mm from the measured height. Height = 2275 mm. Enter the dimension in bold into the order form.

What is the recommended rail width? The number of required grooves depends on the total width of the system. The recommended rail width is based on the ideal fabric panel width.

  • Width of 1000–2000 mm – 2 grooves in the rail
  • Width of 2000–5800 mm – 4 grooves in the rail

The maximum area of a Japanese sliding panel is 12.5 m2.

Instructions

Modern shading element for large windowpanes

Japanese blinds represent one of the fabric types of shading suitable for both smaller and larger windows. They are composed of a head profile with rails for the fabric panels movement. The rails length can go up to 5800 mm. The good news is you can position the panels however you like, for example you can move them only to shade the part of your room you need and leave the door to the garden free.

Plenty of colours to choose from

In our range you'll find more than 60 colours and fabric samples. Different fabric types provide different light transparency. More transparent fabrics will give you less shading making the room feel cosy without too much darkness. Less transparent or blackout fabrics, on the other hand, might provide complete darkness. You can order a single fabric japanese blind or combine more fabrics together which will create a unique shading element tailored just for your home or work place.

Wall substitution

Some smaller flats have got living rooms joined with a sleeping area or entrance halls with open cloak rooms. If you need to separate these areas from each other without building walls, japanese blinds are the perfect solution. Compared to walls their thickness is negligible and they can be pulled to one side anytime.

Ceiling or wall mount

Head rail can be mounted on the ceiling or on the wall. It depends on your preferences and your house interior layout. Based on the wall material please choose an appropriate attachement option in the last step in our configurator and we'll supply you with corresponding consoles accordingly.

You can do the installation yourself with ease

Measuring and installation of the japanese blind is a one man job and can be done in no time. We prepared some useful PDF assembly guides and videos for your convenience so you don't have to seek and pay for assistance elsewhere.
